This magnificent soap has no added scent, but has the added activated charcoal. This bold soap lathers beautifully and may be suitable for individuals who may wish to take advantage of the benefits of this added ingredient, said to help reduce toxins.

Sodium Olivate(Olive Oil), Sodium Cocoate(Coconut Oil), Sodium Rapeseedate(Rapeseed), Aqua, Glycerin (not added) and Activated Charcoal.
Soap is made by mixing oil (or fats) and water. But because oil and water don’t mix, lye (sodium hydroxide) is also added. Therefore, soap is made from oils (or fats), water and lye in perfectly calculated amounts to ensure safety. However, once these individual ingredients have been mixed, they go through a process known as saponification. It is a scientific or chemical reaction and thus the individual ingredients are now transformed into another form, including natural occurring glycerine, which is simply a by-product of saponification. Put another way: though no glycerine is added to any of our vegan handmade soaps, the natural process of making our soaps means during the process, glycerine is formed.
So, whilst the oils we use (Olive Oil, Coconut oil and Rapeseed Oil) are ones you would find in your kitchen, once they are mixed with the other ingredients necessary to make soap, it is a UK government requirement that we now must use the scientific names when listing them on our packing.
Olive Oil, Coconut oil, Rapeseed Oil, water, lye will now look like: Sodium Olivate, Sodium Cocoate and Sodium Rapeseedate.
We often choose to add some essential oils or fragrances, colourings and or botanicals such as petals to some of our soaps to make the beautiful patterns and designs. Each individual ingredient e.g. lemongrass, lavender bud, tea tree and patchouli must also be listed in their scientific names.
I know, it makes it look as though the ingredients are no longer recognisable, but I can assure you that our soaps are still made with lots and lots of love, with the intention of not using any unnecessary ingredients or chemicals.
We hope this will give you a better understanding of why the ingredients list may sometime look long and the names unfamiliar.
